The
Women's Centre was started in 1999 as a result of a community decision.
Jarlmadangah wanted their elders to be properly looked after in
their homes within the community, not in nursing homes elsewhere.
Looking after the 'old people' is a traditional women's role in
Nyikina-Mangala culture, as are cleaning, food preparation, hygiene,
and looking after children.
