Mul Ga Yi Di Store

Jarlmadangah's Mul Ga Yi Di Store is another community initiative.

Anthony Watson co-ordinates the day to day running of the store. Ten years ago community members began building the store with their own money. The first co-ordinator was Leslie Butt, who was also Chairperson of the Community from 1998 to 2000. Some outside help was needed to furnish the interior, but the shop again represents the ideal of building the community from within.

Remote communities often have difficulty obtaining regular supplies, especially fresh food and other necessities for a healthy lifestyle. While there is plenty of game about there is a need for grains and other foods. Running a store like this needs sound business sense and Anthony's training as an accountant is invaluable to the store and to the community as a whole.

Bringing the goods out from town means that people can concentrate their energy more in the local area and don't need to travel to Derby, an hour's drive away.

Well-stocked shelves and refrigerators.
