Community Development

Jarlmadangah community has put a lot of work into extensive development of the community infrastructure. 'Clean and Healthy Communities' awards, in 1999 and 2001 are a reflection of this, as are the well kept houses, the recently expanded school and clinic, the community gardens and the irrigated lawns.

The Chairman of the Community is William Watson. Anthony Watson is the Treasurer and Johnene Watson is the Vice-Chairwoman. Council members are Shirona, Lincoln and Joeph Milgin and Leela Watson. In recent years the Elders of the community have stepped away from time-consuming positions, allowing a youger generation to step up to these new responsibilties.

There is the Women's Centre which has a new building and a range of new activities and the newly built men's meeting area which will give the men their own place to meet and discuss their own issues. The Telecentre run by Leela will be upgraded soon as technology advances rapidly, even in remote areas. There is a new vegetable garden, new fencing around the residential areas and many buildings in the process of being expanded and improved. In the picture on the left a friendly emu wanders past the site where the new men's Centre is being built.
All projects are based on the labour of the community. A consistent clean water supply, dust abatement programs, aged care housing, as well as excellent accomodation facilities are all indicative of thoughtful planning and well-organised implementation of the Community Plan.
