The Corporation has been exploring the potential for the development of a cherabin enterprise. The giant freshwater prawn (cherabin, Macrobrachium rosenbergii) grows in rivers in the north-west of Australia, including the Fitzroy.
JBAC has been working with Broome TAFE and Fisheries WA in establishing an aquaculture training facility at the community. JBAC commenced preliminary investigations into cherabin production in 1997 through the development of small aquariums and holding tanks at the community.

The objective of this early work was for the community to build a basic knowledge and familiarity with the species. Other local fish species under consideration for farming include barramundi and bream.
The community has engaged the assistance of the Food Centre of WA Inc., through the assistance of the Department of Commerce and Trade, and an analysis of nutritional value and other factors has been made.
